Nancy Mustapich
Nancy Mustapich has been a Wisconsin
resident since 1983, moving here after
graduating with a B.A. in English
Literature from Elmira College (New
York) in 1982. She began
making jewelry in 1993 and continued her
education in 1994, when she took
concurrent art metal classes at Madison
Area Technical College. Using
traditional silversmithing techniques
such as "fabrication", she
constructs her jewelry from metal sheet
and wire that is cut and soldered,
rather than molded or cast. Other
techniques used to embellish the metal
include hammering, embossing and
patinas. Her sterling silver and
semi-precious stone jewelry is strongly
influenced by Native American and
Mexican jewelry styles. The rose
quartz ring seen below was featured in
"1000 Rings" by Lark Books published in
2001. In addition to making silver
jewelry, Nancy is an accomplished mosaic
artist and she created the "Brown Swiss"
mosaic cow for Madison's 2006 Cow
Parade. The cow is comprised of
over 30,000 individual pieces of stained
glass! The beautiful bovine is
included in the book, "Cow Parade
Wisconsin" by Orange Frazer Press.
Nancy has been a member of the Sauk
County (Wisconsin) Art Association since
1993.
